Here are some board actions that were ratified by the assembly on June 21. You have been seeing dues of $130.00 per year and 52 breakfasts at $7.00 each for a total annual sum of $494.00. The change you will see is that, starting July 1st, your annual dues will be $400.00 and will include the meal. This is a savings of $94 per year. Dues will be due in four installments: $100.00 due by each of the following dates; July 1, October 1, January 1 & April 1. Full dues are expected to be paid whether you attend all meetings or not. No meal credit for make-ups. If you have already paid your 2006-2007 dues in the amount of $130.00 (as you were billed) you will only need to pay $70.00 in September for the October date. You may, of course, pay for the entire year at any time by sending in a tax deductible check in the amount of $400.00. That decision, by the Board of Directors, left some loose ends not cared for. These were discussed at the June 21 meeting with recommendations by President Jim Belanger. No objections were raised. So, the following will also change effective July 1st. Raffle tickets will be $1.00 each and ten for $5.00. Guests and visiting Rotarians will be charged the usual $7.00 fee for breakfast at our meetings. When you arrive for the meeting, you will only need to check in at the desk to verify attendance, purchase any raffle tickets you might desire and enter the hall. Also decided, at the board meeting, was that the programs for meetings would again be on a schedule with each member expected to supply one guest speaker for the year. You may supply more than one and may swap days with other members. A preliminary schedule was sent out to you but will need to be modified. The days that are planned as Club Assembly days will be skipped on the "Program" schedule and names will need to be moved down so that everyone ends up with only one day per year; as long as membership numbers allows it. So, those are your major changes for the upcoming year. You will still need to pay for the June 28 breakfast, as usual, but starting with the July 5th meeting, your meal will be included in your dues. If you have not yet paid your dues by July 5th, expect to pay the full $7.00 for the meal with no credit allowed once you do pay your dues. Call it a "late fee" if you will. The last item coming from the board of directors concerns the Cow Pattie Bingo. By the time this event rolls around in September, the scoreboard issue should have been resolved. The board has decided to seek no sponsors for this event and allow it to stand on its own as a fundraiser for the Rotary Club. Profits will be placed in a "Club" account for use by the club as the board sees fit. This means, it may be used for club social events or used for charitable causes like our charitable fundraiser profits are. This, however, will allow our club some operating funds to cover events or shortfalls in expected revenue. Future board meetings will be held in the Library in Brookline instead of Hollis but still are scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of each month. There were a few other items discussed at the board meeting which will take place in the coming weeks but these will be announced, in due time, by your incoming president. You were all informed, by separate email, of the passing of a club member, Richard Walker. To date, the only thing I have heard is that he will be cremated and a memorial service is planned to be held at the High School, possibly on July 15th. Police Officer Service This is a last minute item. Nine year Hollis veteran police officer Barry Palmer passed away this week. Barry may have worked with many of us in his capacity as a detective dealing with bad checks to businesses. In any case, his funeral is schedule for this Saturday, June 24th at a Methodist Church in Nashua. Following the funeral service, friends are invited to gather, to share memories, at the Faith Baptist Church on Wheeler Road in Hollis at 11 AM, Saturday June 24. Reverend Mike Rattin has asked for help from the Rotary Club in this effort. If some (or all) Rotary Club members could drop off a platter of "finger foods" to the church on Saturday morning just after 9 AM, it would be greatly appreciated. This will be used as refreshments for the expected 200 or so people who might congregate at the church at 11 AM. So, please see if you can help in this matter. Passing the Gavel The number of you who have purchased tickets for the annual "Passing the Gavel" event is a bit disappointing. Frank Ballou indicates he needs about 15 more guests (7 or 8 Rotarians and spouses) to purchase tickets to meet our minimum commitment. Frank will again be selling tickets at the June 28 meeting. $40 per person. This is your last opportunity before the June 29 event. Come see your new president receive the gavel for the upcoming year and participate in any award activity that may take place. On a more personal note. We started the year with assigned teams of three who would seek out and enlist a new member for our club during the year. The year is over. Has your "team" met it’s charge? We should have inducted at least 15 new members if all teams had succeeded. It appears we fell a bit short on this item. Newsletter Editor/Publisher Is there one of you who would agree to take over the duties of doing a monthly newsletter? Hearing the ramblings of one person for several years has to be boring. Variety would be nice and there really has to be someone out there that would enjoy doing this for a period of time. Step forward and let me know who you are and I will help with the transition in any way I can. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
